“A new employee is about to start, the work situation is busy and the mentors barely have enough time. How can I ensure that work gets done, the new arrival gets the support they need and the team’s well-being is taken care of?”
Topic: orientation progress, feedback, strengths, group development discussion
Time required: less than 10 minutes, no time-consuming preparation required
Materials: no materials required
Ask your team members (excluding the person undergoing orientation) to form pairs (threes in a larger group).
Tell the orientee that their task is to listen to what others say about their progress in learning the new job.
Ask each pair or small group to take turns discussing the following for a few minutes:
- What have they already mastered?
- What good has the orientee brought to the work community and teamwork?
