“A new employee is about to start, the work situation is busy and the mentors barely have enough time. How can I ensure that work gets done, the new arrival gets the support they need and the team’s well-being is taken care of?”

Topic: orientation progress

Time required: less than half an hour, requires some preparation

Materials: a pen and a notepad

Method description

Make an orientation plan for a new employee together, in which orientation responsibilities are divided among several people. Agree on the orientation responsibilities and how to inform others about the orientation progress.

Schedule a short meeting with the new employee regularly. Discuss the questions the new employee has. In addition, discuss what observations the new employee has made about the organisation of work and work methods. Bring up possible development ideas in a suitable situation with the persons concerned.
