“A new employee is about to start, the work situation is busy and the mentors barely have enough time. How can I ensure that work gets done, the new arrival gets the support they need and the team’s well-being is taken care of?”
Topic: orientation progress, progress of measures taken
Time required: from half an hour to an hour, requires preparation
Materials: a noticeboard or empty wall surface, post-it notes, a marker, masking tape
This method is based on the orientation plan presented previously.
Draw a table on a noticeboard or an empty wall surface in which:
- the horizontal axis (column headings) shows the stages of orientation: not started/started/orientation well underway (or guided work)/independent work
- the vertical axis (rows) shows the things included in the orientation (one thing per post-it note) and also the name of the person giving the orientation, for example: work phase A/Mikko, work phase B/Seija and work phase C/Jarna.
Ask the mentors to move the notes they are responsible for on the horizontal axis as the orientation progresses. This way, everyone can see the orientation progress in different areas.
